Verdict
The state of an authority after checking. Three values only: verified (the citation resolves to a real source and the text matches), needs a check (nobody has confirmed it yet, or it could not be confirmed), and not found (it was looked for and it does not exist).

- Needs a checkThe third verdict, and the phrase to use in prose. It is deliberately plain and unalarming: something that has not been checked is not something that is wrong.
- GateA deterministic check that runs on output, code rather than a model's opinion. Four of them: match-set (every citation in the answer must be one that was actually retrieved), quote-verbatim (a quoted passage must appear word for word in the retrieved source), confidence-floor (a claim below the threshold is held rather than passed through), and closed-world-URL (a link from a domain outside the allow-list does not render).
