A practice group started using a general assistant, a client asked whether their documents had gone into it, and now the answer has to come from you.

In England and Wales, for example, Ayinde v London Borough of Haringey and Al-Haroun v Qatar National Bank put fabricated authorities before a court, and the SRA has been writing about AI risk since its Risk Outlook of November 2023. In the United States, Mata v Avianca had already sanctioned lawyers for the same thing in 2023.

What you will say before you try it.

Do you offer information barriers or ethical walls?: No. What exists is restricted matters, permission-bounded document retrieval, and conflict-check results redacted per reader. Information barriers as a named feature are not built and we will not describe them as if they were.
Is the audit bundle tamper-evident?: It carries a content digest. That is not a tamper-evident hash chain and we do not call it one. We do not issue compliance certificates either; certification is a claim we are not in a position to make.
Can a fee-earner turn the checks off?: Verification checks are configured at firm level. The four deterministic gates are mandatory on agents that cite primary law, and the hold-on-failed-authority policy is a firm setting with an owner-level override that is itself recorded.
