Assess worker status across a contractor pool
Fenwick Marine engages sixty contractors on four different templates and one of them has claimed holiday pay. The grid reads every agreement against the same status questions so the pool can be sorted by risk rather than by template.

The problem
Step 01 of 05
Load the pool
Sixty signed agreements are uploaded, along with the four master templates and the current engagement schedule.

Step 02 of 05
Write the status columns
Columns cover substitution, control, mutuality, exclusivity, equipment, integration and how payment is triggered, with an eighth added for whether the contractor has other clients.

Run the pool
Every agreement is answered against every column, with the quoted clause behind each filled cell and Not addressed where the agreement is silent.

Sort by risk
Sorting the substitution column shows which agreements have no genuine right of substitution, and cross-sorting with exclusivity isolates the fourteen highest-risk engagements.

What comes back
A document, not a transcript.
- A grid of sixty agreements against eight status questions, with a quoted clause behind every answer.
- The fourteen engagements where the contract itself points towards worker status, listed first.
- An exposure estimate for holiday pay and deductions, with every assumption written out.
- A note that contractual wording is only the starting point and the working reality has to be checked.
Authorities it checks
- Uber BV v Aslam [2021] UKSC 5
- Employment Rights Act 1996, s 230
What it does not do
- It does not decide status. Only the working reality settles that, and the brief says so before it says anything else.
- It does not interview the contractors or review their invoices and working patterns.
- It does not calculate a final liability figure; the estimate depends on assumptions the client must confirm.
